39th National Conference on “Materials, equipments and techniques for conservation of cultural property- past, present and future” from 14th to 16th December, 2006

39th National Conference of Indian association for the study of Conservation of Cultural Property which held at Regional Conservation Laboratory, (unit off National Research Laboratory for Conservation of Cultural Property, Lucknow) Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India, Siddarthanagar, Mysore on theme “Materials, equipments and techniques for conservation of cultural property- past, present and future” from 14th to 16th December, 2006. More than 100 conservators from all over the India were attended the conference and it was inaugurated on 14th December, 2006 at 10.30 am by Prof.
J Shashidhara Prasads, Vice Chancellor, University of Mysore. Shri K.R. Ramakrishna, Commissioner for Archeology, Museums and Heritage, Govt. of Karnataka, Bangalore delivered the presidential address during the inauguration, Shri N. Harinarayana, Former Director, Govt. Museum , Chennai, doyen in the field of conservation and most conservator in the India felicitated.

Inauguration was immediately followed by key note address by Prof. (Dr.) R. Balsubramaniam, Department of material and metallurgical engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur . He spoke on topic, scientific material, equipments and techniques in conservation: The Delhi Iron Pillar explained highlighted how modern available could be helpful in conserving the cultural heritage. He focused his address on world famous 1600 year old corrosion resistant Delhi Iron Pillar mentioning some of the aspects related to using modern scientific method to understand ancient material technology as well as consequences of the use of such methods on the pillar’s conservation. In all about 31 papers were presented in oral and poster form in five technical sessions spread over two days. Besides, one special session on “Use of laser in Conservation of art works” was arranged from funds given by National mission for Manuscripts, New Delhi on 15 th December, at 9.30 am in which three eminent speakers Prof. S.P.Choudhuri, School of Laser Sciences and Engineering, Jadavpur University, Kolkata, Shri Dipten Misra, Mechanical Engineering Department, Jadavpur University, Kolkata,and Dr. Aniruddha, Scientist AFFF, Bhabha Atomic Research Center, Tarapur, Mumbai were delivered their highly technical and informative talks on the new and advanced techniques having potential in the field of conservation of Cultural Property. On the last day of the conference, the delegates were taken to the field trip to the important monuments and cultural institutions around Mysore.
